Salmon, natural source of vitamin D

I was in college when I enrolled in a Biology course. I learned that vitamin D is very important to one’s health. Accordingly it is needed by the body because it aid in the absorption of calcium and phosphate in the intestine. As a result of low calcium levels in the body hyperparathyroidism occurs. Just a quick overview the parathyroid gland secretes parathyroid hormone which regulates the calcium and phosphate levels in the body. So when there is vitamin D deficiency it results to hyperparathyroidisms when this condition persists there will be an increased in calcium levels or hypercalcemia. Sources of natural vitamin D includes saltwater fish like salmon or herring. The fish liver oil also rich in vitamin D.

While vitamin D is essential to calcium and phosphate regulation. I will also talk about the beneficial effects of Omega-3 fatty acids. We have been hearing Omega-3 on advertisement from canned tuna to sardines and they state that this fatty acid is good for the heart. According to research Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to decrease the risk of heart attacks and are linked to lowering blood pressure and serum triglyceride levels, and helping prevent blood clots. Many nutritionists recommend a daily dose of Omega-3 fatty acids because of its beneficial effects. Natural sources of Omega-3 includes canola oil and tuna.
