The University of Melbourne physiotherapy team has shown that Balance Board is an effective tool for testing balance, and more portable and far cheaper than force plates, the current screening machine.

Force plates are very effective but expensive costing tens of thousands of dollars. Very few clinics and hospitals have one which means balance is usually assessed using a doctors rating.

The Balance Board is as accurate as a force plate giving doctors and clinicians an affordable alternative. It is already used in some Australian clinics, particularly for rehabilitation in stroke patients, and in some retirement villages to keep people active.

Sleep difficulties can often be found in your day-to–day lifestyle choices, so the following tips will help you optimize your nightly rest.

For a start, form a routine by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This will get you in sync with your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle, otherwise known as your circadian rhythm and is one of the most important strategies for achieving a good sleep. Try to keep a regular sleep schedule, you will feel much better for it.

Make sure your bedroom is sleep friendly. It should be below 20oc, which is the optimal temperature for sleeping. This facilitates a drop in core body temperature, which can help you fall and stay asleep. If it’s too hot or too cold it can interfere with quality sleep. And, make sure its dark. Even dim lights can confuse your body clock. Heavy curtains can help block light from the windows, or you can try an eye mask to cover your eyes. Never under estimate the comfort of your bed either. You should have enough room to stretch and turn comfortably and your mattress and bedding should also be comfortable enough not to cause a sore back or aching neck.

Avoid doing anything stimulating in the hour before bed. So many of us use the television to fall asleep, but it actually stimulates the mind rather than relaxing it. Even the most relaxing programs can interfere with the body’s clock due to the light and sound coming from the screen. And, avoid talking on the phone and texting as this can hype you up just as much.

How you exercise and eat during the day will also play an important role on sleep patterns, in particular in those hours leading up to bedtime. For a start stay away from big meals, avoid alcohol, cut down on caffeine and quit smoking. All these things stimulate the body and reduce your sleep quality. While exercising regularly can help you sleep and more deeply at that, be sure to schedule it in the morning or early afternoon, as any later and it will raise your temperature, the opposite of what you want near bedtime and stimulate the body.

Try to stop worrying, as anxiety and stress will make it very difficult to sleep well. Take note of what is causing the worry as this may help you figure out what you need to do during the day to get your stress under control. If you find it hard, you need to learn how to manage your thoughts or get help with a stress management plan. This will teach you how to manage your time and handle stress in a productive way to give you a more positive outlook.

Benefits: Some of the health benefits of grapes include the following:

Asthma: Due to its eminent therapeutic value, grapes can be used for cure of asthma. In addition to it, the assimilatory power of grapes is also higher. It increases the moisture present in lungs.

Heart diseases: Grapes increase the nitric oxide levels in the blood, which prevents blood clots thereby reducing the chances of heart attacks. In addition the antioxidant present in grapes prevents the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which blocks the blood vessels.

Oh I am stricken with allergy today I sneeze frequently and I have allergy on skin. It’s been a long since I have this maybe because I have become more health conscious. Today though is the day when I am attacked with allergy. When I woke up I really felt dizzy and my voice seems different, I am also weak and my nose is very itchy. Anyway I started my day by taking my breakfast and I had a sip of orange juice I also took my vitamin C, but still I feel really tired. Until the time came when I noticed I constantly sneeze and I noticed some bumps in my skin. I then realized I have allergy so I rushed to a pharmacy and ordered an OTC anti allergy medicine. I knew that these types of medicine can make me drowsy so I have to stay home just to be safe. So there I wish this allergy will disappear immediately.

Yesterday my office mates and I decided to drink hot chocolate drink made by a Spanish restaurant near our workplace. Most people say that the chocolate concoction in that resto is way too exotic and has health benefits. According to the Central American people chocolate drink provides energy for them. Furthermore, chocolate and cocoa derive their health benefits from flavonoids-plant pigments capable of acting as antioxidants to counteract some of the cellular damage that can lead to chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Cocoa powder has also been shown to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow in humans. A cup of cocoa has almost three times the antioxidants of a cup of green tea, another drink renowned for its health benefits. With all of the antioxidant capabilities of cocoa it may seem like a no-brainer to add dark chocolate and cocoa to your diet. While cocoa is still recommended by most experts when consumed in reasonable quantities. After drinking the chocolate drink, we all felt refreshed and we plan for more of this drink next week maybe.

Calcium is a mineral that helps build strong bones and teeth, regulates muscle contraction (including the heartbeat) and makes sure the blood is clotting normally. Milk and dairy products have long been held as an important source of calcium, although more recently the role and safety of dairy calcium sources have been questioned by some scientists and more research is needed to draw a firm conclusion.

Other sources of calcium include:

Fish (for example sardines)

Dried fruit

Sesame seeds

Almonds

Soya

Dark green leafy vegetables

More importantly, research also suggests that calcium in your diet is less important in developing healthy bones than vitamin D (from your daily diet or from the sun’s effect on the skin). Similarly, sufficient exercise is now seen as another vital factor in maintaining healthy bone structure and density – concerns have been voiced that a lack of excercise in growing children will have a detrimental effect on their bones.

Calcium can continue strengthening your bones until the age of 20 to 25 when peak bone mass is reached. After this point, your bones can only maintain or lose their density and grow weaker as a natural part of the ageing process. Inadequate dietary calcium intake before this age can increase the risk of brittle bone disease and osteoporosis, as calcium is drawn from the bones as a reserve.

Men’s skin care has come a long way from the days when your father would wash his face with a withered bar of soap and cover up shaving nicks with bits of toilet paper. Today, there are an overwhelming amount of products specially formulated to meet the needs of the stubborn (and stubbly) male epidermis. But navigating your way through the glut of grooming goods out there doesn’t have to be intimidating, and it shouldn’t be fussy either; a winning skin care regimen should be swift and simple to ensure that you’ll actually follow it. You can check your 12-step program at the bathroom door, because achieving better skin takes just five tips.
Cleanse
If you do nothing else, cleansing is the single most important thing you can do for your face. It should be the basis of your skin care regimen, but that doesn’t mean reaching for a simple bar of soap (which can overcompensate and leave your skin dryer than a desert). Men’s skin typically has large pores and very active sebaceous glands. While these glands are critical for keeping the skin naturally moist, they can often produce too much sebum, leaving your skin feeling greasier than an oil slick. Neglecting to wash away the excess oil and dirt can clog pores, which leaves the skin prone to breakouts. A basic gel works just fine, but not all facial cleansers are created equal. Look for one that is strong enough to cut through the grease and yet gentle and affordable enough to be used at least once a day.
Exfoliate
Sometimes cleaning the skin with a simple face wash just isn’t enough. A cleanser washes away oil and dirt on the surface, but what about all that nasty stuff deep down in your pores? Even religious use of a face wash will still leave the most men’s skin feeling like a bumpy mess. That’s where exfoliation should make an appearance in your skin routine (just two to three times a week). It helps dislodge debris that normal washing can’t touch. A good scrub should have granules to help smooth the skin and eliminate the dullness that results from normal pore clogging and dirt build-up. Exfoliation also softens hair follicles for a closer, less-irritating shave and allows the skin to better absorb moisturizers.
Moisturize
Skin care for most men starts and stops with a basic bar of soap or cleanser. But washing is the absolute least you can do to prevent your face from turning into a big blackhead. Even if you happen to live in a sauna, skin can get dry after showering and, over time, that godforsaken process known as aging makes it lose elasticity. Add all that to the horror of placing a sharp blade next to your face everyday to appease rigid HR standards for clean-cut wholesomeness, and you have a recipe for irritated skin that’s parched and taut. Showering and shaving open up pores and allow precious water to escape, but a light moisturizer can fix everything. It replenishes the skin’s moisture content and prevents razor burn. A moisturizer with SPF will also provide a critical shield against the sun. Harsh UVB rays cause the skin to burn, but it’s the UVA rays that lead to long-term damage like deep lines and skin cancer. A moisturizer with multispectrum defense takes care of it all.

Natural Facial Cleansers Instead Of Soap

Sometimes soap can be too harsh of a cleanser on facial skin because it strips the skin of its natural oils. Using an alternative natural cleanser can be effective at cleansing the skin without removing the skin’s natural oils. There are a few natural ingredients that can be used as facial cleansers. After using any of these cleansers, wipe away residue with a toner or distilled water and then moisturize the skin.
Yogurt And Oatmeal As Gentle Cleansers

You can use yogurt as a cleanser. Just massage gently the yogurt over the face while avoiding the eye area. Rinse with warm water and gently pat the skin dry. You can also use cooked oatmeal as a gentle face cleanser. The oatmeal will soothe and protect dry skin. You can mix yogurt and oatmeal together for a facial cleanser. If you add a little bit of cornmeal or ground oats to the mixture, these will act as a gentle exfoliate for the skin.
Exfoliation With Dairy Products

Other dairy products that can be used as a gentle facial cleanser and exfoliate include milk, buttermilk or cream. Dairy products will hydrate and provide nutrition directly to the skin as they cleanse. Dairy products used as cleansers are gentle enough for all skin types. The lactic acids in dairy products also act as an exfoliate on the skin.

Cleanse With Vegetable Oil

Dry or mature skin can benefit from using a plain vegetable oil or butter as a natural cleanser in the same way that a cold cream is used to clean the face and neck. Another cleanser for dry skin is made from one part each of olive oil and honey with two parts distilled water. You can leave this mixture on for a few minutes before gently wiping it off.
Pass The Vegetables, Please

You can use cooked vegetables as a gentle facial cleanser. You can also use the water used from cooking vegetables as a gentle skin nutritious cleanser. Use fresh ingredients in small one time use amounts. Freeze liquids as ice cubes and thaw as necessary for use as natural cleansers.

One of the benefits of eating papaya is that it helps to prevent cancer. Papaya is a rich source of antioxidants that the body needs to fight against cancer-causing cells. Vitamin C, E and beta-carotenes are antioxidants that prevent all kinds of cancers. So adding a daily serving of papaya to your diet may lessen your risk of developing cancer.

Papaya is Used to Treat Digestive Disorders

Papaya is a great source of proteolytic enzymes that are very important in digesting food. The most important of these proteolytic enzymes found in papaya is papain. Papain breaks down proteins in food, allowing for better digestion. Papain is used in prescription of digestive enzymes to treat individuals with cystic fibrosis or pancreatic conditions; producing for them what the body cannot produce naturally. Eating papaya is also a benefit because papain taken orally treats less serious digestion disorders such as bloating and chronic indigestion. In these cases papain is extracted, dried and sold as tablets.

Papaya Boosts Male Virility

Another great benefit of papaya is to boost male virility. Papaya contains an enzyme called arginine which is known in the medically community to boost blood flow around the penis. Arginine boosts nitric acid in the body to relax the muscles surrounding the blood vessels tat supply the penis. These blood vessels then dilate and increase blood flow. A more concentrated form of arginine is used to treat erectile dysfunction.

Mental Calmness: Yoga asana practice is intensely physical. Concentrating so intently on what your body is doing has the effect of bringing a calmness to the mind. Yoga also introduces you to meditation techniques, such as watching how you breathe and disengagement from your thoughts, which help calm the mind.

Stress Reduction: Physical activity is good for relieving stress, and this is particularly true of yoga. Because of the concentration required, your daily troubles, both large and small, seem to melt away during the time you are doing yoga. This provides a much-needed break from your stressors, as well as helping put things into perspective. The emphasis yoga places on being in the moment can also help relieve stress, as you learn not to dwell on past events or anticipate the future. You will leave a yoga class feeling less stressed than when you started. Read more about yoga for stress management here.

Body Awareness: Doing yoga will give you an increased awareness of your own body. You are often called upon to make small, subtle movements to improve your alignment. Over time, this will increase your level of comfort in your own body. This can lead to improved posture and greater self-confidence.
